So Much Snow!
Shoveling snow became perfected this month along with plowing as we had SOOOOO much snow!
We have been keeping warm in the office getting preparations done for the spring. We hope we will have some positive border news for our American friends that fish with us!! We will keep everyone posted in March!
We are happy to report that we will be offering some newly renovated bathrooms at One Man Lake Lodge. We will have new flooring, vanities and some bonuses for our guests for this upcoming summer.
What kind of winter would it be without some ice hockey? Kenora put on an outside ice hockey tournament that got lots of hockey players involved including our two boys. What a fun event—they had a food truck and music and it was great to see the turnout of people to support this fundraiser!
January Fun
January was a great month as we started getting some snow fall which made it fun for snowmobile riding. The snow didn’t stop—we had so much snow this month it was some of the best snow conditions in years—it was cold for sure but as long as you dress warm, the snowmobiling was incredible. We went out for the weekend and made a fire for warmth and lunch—it was a blast having friends and family gathering outside!!
We snowmobiled to Rex for another escape to the outdoors and get another ride in. We were driving through some parts of the burn from this past summer and WOW that fire burnt a lot of bush! We saw some partridge, otters playing by the creeks and lots of eagles it was a gorgeous ride!!
We bought another plane! We purchased a 185 Cessna to be able to fly into our outposts and lodges. It’s a great plane that we purchased from a Kenora local. It flies great and Chris is getting antsy for spring to try it on floats for the summer!!
Cheers!
The month of December is spent differently for most-for some it is a time for hunting, the start of ice fishing, prepping and shopping for the holiday season and making plans for the next year’s fishing adventures. Spending time with friends and loved ones is an awesome way to come together and for some its not just at Christmas. We are a destination for not only fishing but as a meeting place friends and family during the summer fishing season.
Here is a quick video of driving through the yard in our winter wonderland at One Man Lake! This video was from early December when the English River was still open. The frigid cool temperatures in mid-December really set in and the river froze over by Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all of our previous, current and future fishermen and hunters! We hope that your Christmas was full love and that our fishermen received lots of fishing tackle and gear from Santa!
Happy New Years to everyone and wishing a safe and memorable start of 2022!! Our New Year’s resolution is to be able to be able to welcome our American guests in 2022! Let’s go fishing!!
Brrr-keep that wood stove going!!
With the temperatures falling and the wind blowing this fall, we took on a project that had to be completed. New ceilings were installed at One Man and it looks great! The crew did an amazing job!!
Work was also done on a cabin at Kettle Falls. Check out the video going to Kettle Falls by boat!

Our Thanksgiving was October 11th and we had so much to be thankful for this year. With 2 forest fires-one of which was at Moosehorn and burned towards Kettle this spring and the other one this summer that started north and moved its way to the English River, we are able to say that all our buildings and docks remain intact! So thankful and grateful to the MNRF that worked hard endlessly which seemed like all summer fighting the fires in our area. Chris had flown around and checked on all our locations and we did loose some boats and motors on our musky lake at Irregular otherwise that was about it.
We are grateful that Canada opened its borders and we were able to see everyone that made it up! Everyone was double vaccinated, covid tested negative and travelled to us to go fishing. Thank you all for taking the extra steps to come on your fishing vacation with us at Halley’s Camps!
NEW for 2022! We are flying from KENORA!!
We are having all of our outpost guests and our all-inclusive guests fly out of Kenora, Ontario and not Minaki. This is will be easier for all of you for less driving, timelines, hotels, meals, shopping and more! We will have a new office downtown Kenora as well! We will be continuing to offer flights from Winnipeg and Fort Frances direct into our lodges and outposts. Kenora is located 2.5 hours drive north of International Falls, MN.
