We’re particularly proud of this unique, hand-hewn log cabin on the shores of beautiful Dowswell Lake. It was the first built in the design that all of our outpost cabins have since been modeled after. Like Bee Lake, it is a five-sided structure built with pine logs harvested from the nearby woods. The front wall is composed of floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a stunning view of the forest and lake. The cabin sleeps eight in four bedrooms and provides the ultimate in modern conveniences with electric lights, hot and cold running water, indoor shower, carpeted floors, and modern propane kitchen appliances.
Dowswell Lake is totally uninhabited, so you and your friends will truly be "lord of the wilderness." Along with the main lake, there’s a network of three secluded lakes for your private use. Dowswell Lake itself harbors the highly-prized lake trout, as well as northern pike and smallmouth bass.
Bilko Lake is connected to Dowswell by a 450 yard trail. There, you will find two 14-foot Lund boats with 6 h.p. motors for your private use. Bilko Lake holds lots of walleye and northern pike, as do two other lakes that connect to Dowswell via portage trails of similar length.

Well-known wilderness photographer Tom Thomson visits Dowswell Lake with his wife and kids whenever he gets a chance. "This is really a lovely retreat," he says. "And the fishing is great. You can catch big lake trout only a few hundred yards from the cabin. If we’re here for enough time, we like to fish a different lake every day. The kids love the adventure of hiking along the trails, and you’ve got that beautiful log cabin waiting for you at the end of the day. I wish I lived there."
